health & beauty: castor oil cures

Today, I learned about the magic of castor oil. A co-worker informed me that castor oil is helping to thicken her thinning eye brows. And here I thought it was only for your car, which it is because it's a great lubricant.

But there are in fact many health and beauty benefits of castor oil, which you can purchase at your local grocery store or pharmacy. It's used in things like nail polish, perfumes, makeup, paints, dyes, waxes, lotions, and even the coating of pills.

Oral treatments: Apparently the most popular use of castor oil is as a laxative. Mix it with some OJ to help dilute the bitter taste and a teaspoon will cure constipation. It will also destroy mucous to ward off runny noses and congestion. Please note you should check with your doctor before using it to cure these ailments.

Topical treatments: Wrapping a cut with a bandage or cottonball soaked in castor oil will reduce swelling and infection. It prevents the growth of bacteria, yeast and viruses and is excellent on ringworm and sunburns.

Apparently, rubbing castor oil on your nipples will help breastfeeding mothers lactate because it stimulates the mammary glands. Always wash the nipple before allowing your child to breastfeed.

Castor oil, when applied to the skin, also helps the skin retain it's natural healing properties. It helps you maintain a healthy glow and soft skin, and it stimulates your muscles and internal organs at the same time!

Castor oil can also be found in hair re-growing products. When applied to the scalp directly, it can help re-grow thinning hair. Here's how to apply it correctly.

Who knew this little bean could pack so much punch!

Apparently, it's supposed to induce labor also...or at least that is what I've heard. Can't say I tried it...:)
