a perfect first date? i don't believe it!

Thank you all so much for your sweet comments on Mae's post yesterday!
She's amazing. The end.
And I know she appreciates all the sweet emails from you!
So thank you. From the bottom of my heart.
This thing we call a blogging community is full of the best people in the world.

So today, I have another treat for you.
Jackie from Messy Hair and Cowboy Boots {who I know in real life; she's fabulous and talented!} is here to tell you about her ONE perfect first date.
I know. I didn't believe it was possible either.
But you'll love it.
And the story isn't over at the end of this post. You'll see.
But at the end of this post there is a giveaway. So there's that.
Take it away, woman...

I was so excited when I was able to sponsor Holly this month. I think she's fantastic IRL and in the bloggy world. I've been reading this blog for a while, and adore it!!! Who doesn't, right?! Anyways - I'm Jac from Messy Hair & Cowboy Boots - it's a lifestyle blog where I talk about life, fashion, dating, and everything in between. My dear friend, Ellie and I have been posting dating/relationship stories and disasters this past month and when Holly and I were discussing my guest post - I knew I had to post a brand new installment of The Blonde Life {exclusively for Running in Stilettos readers}...

I’ve had one perfect first date. This was it. It was nothing out of the ordinary; we met at a park, talked for hours, had ice cream, went to the movies, went out for drinks, and came back to his place. L and I had that first date where we couldn’t get enough of each other. He was easy to talk to, he made me feel amazing, and the stars aligned that night. I know they did.

L and I had known each other for a couple of years. We had a couple of classes together my freshman year of college and became friends, I may or may not have had a bit of a crush on him {that he never knew about}. Enter Facebook – we became friends and began talking. We got along great; we spent days and weeks talking before we ever decided to actually hang out. He kept asking, but I kept denying. I didn’t know if I was really attracted to him anymore. He was nice enough but I was a brat. However, I eventually gave in.

That night we sat and talked for hours about everything and anything, our hopes and dreams, we laughed, and stayed up until the sun rose. It’s a night I will always look back and smile. I knew this guy was amazing. And regardless of how the rest of this story goes… I’ll forever believe that. Even in the most toxic, darkest moments – I believe that.

L had been married for quite a few years {remember, we met 12 years ago and only knew each for one before we lost contact - a lot happens}, divorced for a little over one year, and had a 4 year old daughter. He was a little tainted but that was okay, we weren’t rushing into anything. We both knew that, we talked about it. We were in the same place. And it was comfortable. We spent the first month of dating going out, drinking, hanging out with his friends who became my friends, and we became best friends. Best friends who were crazy about each other.

 Sounds great, doesn’t it?

 It was.

Until that weird moment two months in when he decided he needed time to think. I was heartbroken. Looking back it’s crazy that I was so smitten that soon in. But I was. I cried, tried to fight it, did what we girls do when we are pushed away, but I finally resigned and gave him his space. A few days later he comes back around. He tells me he cares about me so much, to please not forget about him that he just has to work through some stuff and we will be okay. He believed in us – and so did I. He had gone through a lot with the marriage and I knew that was still something he was dealing with but didn’t want to talk about. I respected that.

What do you think happens? I can safely say the twists and turns this relationship takes for next year are enough to turn anyone into a serious vino... That said - grab a glass and come visit Messy Hair & Cowboy Boots next Friday to read more of this story. ;)

I can't wait to see how this ends!
